Precise Heat 3-1/2-Quart Surgical Stainless-Steel Oil Core Skillet A massive disappointment, (What's this?) Ordered this pan for my wife for Valentines day 2010, which in itself made me a little apprehensive after the birthday vacuum fiasco many years back.
Seems women don't always appreciate getting tools on special occasions. Who knew ?
Arrival: Double boxed and well protected, the wife carefully opened the containers. Enclosed was a beautiful pan wrapped in a protective plastic bag and dripping in oil. Oh-Oh, recalling a few closing reviews about leakers.
Not to worry, the instructions mention washing in hot, soapy water to remove oil residues from the manufacturing process. OK then..still, why make such a beautiful product and not take the time to clean it a bit ?
Anyway, we cleaned it and re-arranged cupboards to give it a safe place from dings. Put it away until today when we pulled it down to cook a few hamburgers.
Some of the write ups mentioned a lack of heat control accuracy as well as extended time to heat so I instrumented the new pan by inserting a digital thermometer probe through the lid vent and set a digital kitchen timer to count up.
Pan on. Temp rise was pleasingly quick - about 11 minutes from room temp to 350 F. The pan kept going...and going...at 405 F ( remember, it's set to 350) oil begins leaking out of the top rim and the handles where expansion vents are located. I chicken out and turn dial to 250. Now 13 minutes since pan on temp is 425 F and still climbing. I turn the dial to off , power light stays on. Oil continues to leak. I continue to wipe.It continues to heat. Finally it begins to smoke. Temp now 441 F. Pulled the plug and used the stove to cook our burgers.
A beautiful pan ruined by poor manufacturing quality control, a real shame on them. I won't be trying anything from Precise Heat again until I've heard they got their act together.
Needless to say, this is going back. I ordered thru Amazon rather than one of the less expensive on-line stores just in case this happened, it turns out now to have been a wise choice. Amazon makes returns easy and covers the return shipping too.
Love to cook, (What's this?) I have looked all over for an electric Stainless Steel frying pan. All I could find had non-stick liners. I do not like non-stick.
I really like using this pan, it cooks fast and evenly. It will hold alot of food. My husband loves using it too! You can even
put in the dishwasher if you want.
Heats evenly, (What's this?) Like others, I have used the Faberware stainless for decades and would buy another if I could. The only problem I battled with the Faberware was oxidation of the threaded connections to the Calrod, which eventually causes a burnout. I hope this does not happen with Precise Heat products, because I intend to use this one a lot. It took some adjusting to the temperatures, as they appear to read at least 100 degrees low (I cook pancakes on "250" according to the dial).
Have had this same Skillet for about 35 years!, I purchased this Stainless Steel Oil Core, Waterless/Oil-less Cooking Skillet at the at the same time I purchased my Maxam Waterless Cookware set. The information below that applies to my cookware set also applies to tthe skillet. I love this skillet.
My Cookware is the Maxam waterless cookware. The Chef's Secret cookware set appears to be a nice set too.
The Maxam and Chef's Secret cookware is the same type of cookware. Both are called waterless/oil-less cookware. Although the items you cook must have a curtain amount of moisture. That means sometimes you will need to add 2 or 3 tablespoons of water. With eggs and fish you need to add a little bit of oil. Remember, little water, little oil, that's if you need any at all! Also, start the pans on high then YOU MUST turn them to medium or low. Items will cook faster and TASTE BETTER, without as many calories or fat grams. I suggest you use very little salt, if any. Salt is largely used to enhance the taste; if you are not cooking the taste out of the food then you don't need the salt.
Maxam vs. Chef's Secret Cookware: Maxam uses 9 elements in its construction where as Chef's Secret uses 12 elements.
Both sets use High-Grade Stainless Steel which is simply the healthiest, earth friendly, efficient care-free cooking utensil in today's kitchen and it is the only precision crafted utensil designed specifically for waterless cooking. You do need to learn how to cook with it; YouTube can help you with that. Also, there are several websites that can inform you all about High-Grade Stainless Steel Cookware. Choice Cookery is one website.
Once you learn to cook with this type of cookware both cleaning and cooking will become easier.
WOW!!, (What's this?) This is one of the best kitchen appliances I have ever owned. I am impressed by the good quality and pan size (it is nice and deep). It was pricy but it will probably outlast me. If you are serious about cooking with an electric skillet I highly recommend this one.
Wonder how I ever survived without it ..., (What's this?) The Precise Heat 3 1/2 Qt. Surgical Stainless-Steel Oil Core Skillet is nothing short of
marvelous. I purchased one as a gift for some friends. We cooked a lovely meal using the
new skillet and we all agreed that it was perhaps the finest electric skillet money can buy.
I was so impressed by it that I have since purchased a second one for myself. The heating
was very evenly distributed and cleanup was easy. They don't make them any better than this.
I look forward to cooking for many more years with this fine piece of craftsmanship. I fully
expect this skillet to last a life-time because of it's sturdy construction of high-grade
materials.
Don't miss out anylonger!, (What's this?) Buy this now! I've had this product for a few weeks now and LOVE IT! For my daughter, I purchased the $4K set of waterless cookware and oil coil skillet from Saladmaster and have been so impressed with her new way of cooking but could not afford another $4K. I did my research and ended up here for the oil coil skillet (not many choices out there). For LITERALLY a fraction of the cost, I went with this skillet and am so happy. Cakes, brownies, healthy caseroles, fish, vegtables, etc. are so good, convenient and good for us! It does take some getting used to and the cookbook that comes with it is pretty much worthless.
Oil leakage, (What's this?) So excited to get this in the mail. Could not wait to cook with it. Cleaned it up to get started and
turned it on to preheated. While cooking oil spewed out of the handle on the opposite side of the plug in. Then it started smoking from running down the side of the pan. Smoked up the house and smelled really bad. Had to open doors to help get the smell out. This could be a really good pan if that did not happen. Also the temperature was a little off by what the numbers are on the temp control knob 250 was more like 350. I had read a few reviews on this and was hoping I would get one of the good ones. But I ended up with the leaky one. A little Leary about trying another one.
Nice Piece, (What's this?) I had a SaladMaster demonstrator come to our house and a piece similar to this one was $900, so I thought I would give this one a try. SaladMaster is 316 Titanium and Stainless and this one is 304, which is what old SaladMaster was made of, so I didn't think it would be too different. It cooks great. I did burn some seasoning in the bottom, I need to get used to Waterless Cooking, it is a little difficult to clean when stuff is stuck, but overall I think this is a great piece. It heats up fast and cooks well. Even though I burned stuff to the pan, the food didn't tatse burned.
